Nissan Recalls Vehicles Due To Fire Risk

Recently, the car giant Nissan announced a significant recall due to concerns that their vehicles might spontaneously catch fire. Nissan is one of the largest car companies in the world, and this recall is estimated to affect close to 400,000 vehicles in the United States. When a recall is issued, it is typically because something is wrong with the vehicle that places the safety of its occupants at risk. This is exactly what has happened in this situation.

Because this recall for Nissan addresses a direct danger to the driver and passengers in the car, it is important for everyone who drives one of the affected models to take their vehicle to the shop right away. This can prevent a serious disaster from happening on the roads.

The Details of the Recall

The prolific Japanese automaker indicates that the exact nature of the defect involves the braking system. There is a seal on the brake pump that can become worn down over time. When this seal starts to degrade, the brake fluid starts to leak from the system. As this brake fluid leaks from the vehicle, it can create a short in the electrical system of the actuator of the vehicle. If a short happens in the electrical system of the vehicle, this can lead to a serious fire that can consume the entire vehicle.

The recall impacts four different common Nissan models in the United States. This includes the Nissan Murano SUV (from years 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018), the Nissan Maxima sedan (from years 2016, 2017, and 2018), the Nissan Pathfinder SUV (from 2017, 2018, and 2019), and the Infiniti QX60 (from 2017, 2018, and 2019). For those who might not know, Infiniti is the luxury brand for Nissan.

Those who drive one of the affected vehicles above need to make sure they take their car to the shop immediately so that the defective part involving the brakes can be repaired and replaced. In the meantime, if the anti-lock brake warning light comes on for more than 10 seconds, this indicates a serious problem with the braking system. The vehicle should be parked outside and away from any other vehicles or structures.

Not the First Braking Problem for Nissan

Sadly, this isn’t the first time the famed automaker has had to deal with problems related to its brake fluid. Just last year, Nissan was forced to recall more than 200,000 vehicles. Of note, last year’s recall does not overlap with this year’s recall and impacts a different population of cars. At the same time, looking at the database of complaints from the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA) will quickly turn up a trove of reports and complaints regarding the anti-lock braking system and its propensity to leak. One complaint even indicates that the car ignited and exploded less than a month after it was bought. An insurance company subsequently discovered that the problem was related directly to brake fluid that leaked all over the car’s circuit board.

Other Recalls and Complaints

Earlier this year, Nissan had to recall more than one million vehicles due to problems with the back-up camera. Back-up cameras are now common in cars, and many people depend on them to keep them safe while reversing. Nissan’s backup cameras were able to be adjusted to show a blank screen, which is a violation of safety standards in the United States.

It is important for everyone to pay attention to recalls and heed the warnings immediately. It is the responsibility of the manufacturer to make sure their products are safe to use. If someone gets hurt while using a defective product, such as the brakes in a motor vehicle, it is important to make sure the responsible parties are held accountable.
