Napa Vehicle Accident Injures Elderly Pedestrian

According to officials of the Napa Police Department (NPD), an 80-year-old woman was seriously injured during a local vehicle accident on Wednesday, July 10, 2019. The accident reportedly involved one vehicle and a pedestrian who had been crossing a main city thoroughfare. After the accident, the injured woman was reportedly in hospital custody in “serious condition.”

Crash Details

Police say that the crash took place shortly before 3:00 p.m. on Soscol Avenue at the intersection of Pear Tree Lane just south of Trancas Avenue. The woman was using a crosswalk to navigate the road when she was struck by a vehicle traveling north on Soscol. The driver reportedly stopped their vehicle and remained at the accident scene, cooperating with officers.

When emergency officials arrived, they found that the woman had suffered severe injuries. She was placed on an ambulance and rushed to the nearby Queen of the Valley Medical Center in order to be given immediate treatment. The driver of the vehicle was reportedly uninjured during the incident.

Investigation

NPD Traffic Sgt. Kris Jenny told reporters that police shut northbound Soscol off to traffic until around 7:00 p.m. while response teams worked the accident site. Jenny noted that southbound lanes were to be closed for around an hour while NPD’s Accident Reconstruction Team reviewed evidence at the collision scene. Investigators have stated that intoxication does not appear to be a factor in this accident, but have not reported any suspected causes.

Accidents like this one can be caused by a variety of factors that frequently include things that are not under the control of drivers such as defective auto products or dangerous roads with pavement issues or inadequate signage. In these cases, government entities and/or vehicle manufacturers can often also be held financially responsible.

Recoverable Damages

After a serious car accident, survivors and their families are often left in a difficult situation. Not only are severe injuries both physically painful and emotionally difficult, but medical expenses and other costs can be very high. While these concerns are serious, those who’ve been injured in car accidents are frequently able to claim a variety of payments for damages related to their accident through personal injury claims. Recoverable damages in a personal injury case cover a wide range of losses, including medical bills, lost income, emotional suffering, and more. However, liable parties are typically quick to begin building a defense against liability, and navigating personal injury claims can be complicated. For these reasons, getting help from a Napa personal injury lawyer right away is often a vital part of recovering the payments you deserve.
