Napa Man Dies During South Lake Tahoe Boating Accident

On Monday, August 10, 2020, one person lost his life in a South Lake Tahoe boating accident. Two days later, officials of the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office identified the decedent as a 28-year-old resident of Napa. According to the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD), the accident happened in the late afternoon and involved two other people who did not suffer injuries. The accident remains under investigation.

Crash Information

The accident occurred shortly before 4:00 p.m. around one mile from the southern shore of Lake Tahoe near the Lakeshore Marina. Police indicated that the decedent was attempting to board an inflatable tube attached to a ski boat when his leg was struck by the boat’s propeller.

Emergency officials rushed to the scene of the incident and were able to recover the injured man. While paramedics attempted to revive him, he tragically passed away at the scene. A second man who had been in the water at the time was rescued and did not sustain any injuries while a third man who had remained on-board the boat was also uninjured.

Investigation

While SLTPD continues its investigation into this accident, there have been no reports confirming any causal factors. Accidents like this one can happen for a number of reasons and are often more complicated than they initially appear. In many cases, factors like faulty boat parts or safety equipment play a major role in causing boating accidents.

After fatal accidents, it is important to contact a wrongful death attorney who can launch a private investigation. Often, police do not uncover evidence that could be a critical part of wrongful death cases. By having an experienced lawyer commit their resources to accident investigation, you can ensure that you are doing everything possible to hold liable parties accountable.
