Napa Major Injury Motorcycle Accident

I’m Ed Smith, a Napa motorcycle accident lawyer. On Saturday, June 24, 2017, a motorcyclist sustained traumatic injuries in a multiple vehicle collision in Napa. The available details regarding the incident can be read below.

What Happened?

California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that an accident occurred at around 6:43 p.m. when a Suzuki sports motorcycle had been driving southbound on Highway 121 only a short distance north of Circle Oaks Drive. CHP indicated that, as the motorcycle was approaching Circle Oaks, it collided with a vehicle.

Details of the collision as well as the make and model of the other vehicle were not included in the report. An investigation into the possible causes of this accident is currently underway.

Response and Injuries

CHP dispatched emergency responders to the site of the crash after receiving reports indicating that someone may have been injured. When first responders arrived, they discovered that the motorcyclist had suffered major injuries. Medical officials called for an ambulance so that the motorcyclist could receive emergency medical attention.

Officials have not reported the specific nature of the motorcyclist’s injuries or the motorcyclist’s identity to the public so far.

Motorcycle Accidents

Motorcycle accidents come with a high risk of serious injury. According to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), more than 4,500 American motorcyclists are killed and over 70,000 are injured in motorcycle accidents every year.

Motorcycle accidents are particularly dangerous due to the lack of protection that a motorcyclist has relative to other types of vehicles. Because many motorcycles are not designed with the same safety features as cars (such as airbags), motorcyclists often receive critical traumatic injuries when they are involved in collisions.

Motorcycle Accident Causes and Injury Prevention

Motorcycle accidents happen for a number of reasons. Among them are hitting loose gravel, turning too quickly, dangerous road conditions, and faulty vehicle parts. Collisions can also be caused by distracted drivers, drivers under the influence of alcohol, drivers operating their vehicles at unsafe speeds, and even simple right-of-way violations.

In order to prevent being seriously hurt in a motorcycle accident, bikers should always wear helmets while riding their bikes, as head injuries are a leading cause of motorcycle fatalities. Remaining aware of other drivers as well as changing roadway conditions is another important part of avoiding injury collisions. Being ready to react to dangerous situations puts riders at an advantage in avoiding critical injuries.
