Accident on Golden State Highway Involves Five Vehicles

A multiple-vehicle crash on April 19 along Golden State Highway resulted in one injury. The accident occurred around 7:25 in the morning in Sacramento along southbound State Route 99 at the Sutterville Road off-ramp, according to the police report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The police report stated that five vehicles were involved in the collision and blocked three lanes of traffic during rush hour.

Two Vehicles Flee the Accident Scene

Two of the vehicles involved in the collision fled the scene of the crash before officers arrived. One injury was reported. However, no further details were forthcoming. The multiple-vehicle crash is being investigated to find out what happened and to assign fault.

Complications of a Multiple-Vehicle Crash

When multiple vehicles are involved in an accident, more than one driver is probably at fault. This means that a claim may be placed for injuries against anyone who is found negligent. Some of the reasons a driver may commit an error while driving include:

  • Distracted driving is a serious problem around the country and responsible for the majority of accidents. A driver who is texting or chatting on a cell phone is not paying full attention to the surrounding traffic. They may react too slowly to stop when traffic slows ahead and become involved in a multiple-vehicle crash.
  • Drunk driving is still a major concern on Sacramento roads. A drunk driver has problems staying in their lane, and an intoxicated motorist is often guilty of entering a highway going in the wrong direction.
  • Reckless drivers perform actions such as speeding, tailgating, cutting in and out of traffic, and others. Any of these behaviors could lead to a multiple-vehicle crash.
  • Fatigued drivers often don’t realize they are too tired to be behind the wheel of a car. While some may start to nod off and drift into another lane, causing a collision, others may actually fall asleep, which can have disastrous consequences.

Poor Road Maintenance or Design Can Cause a Multiple-Vehicle Crash

Motorists expect a roadway to be in good condition with good lighting, easy-to-read signs, and a smooth, clear roadway. However, the designer of the road or government entity in charge of maintenance may have been negligent in one of these areas. Objects in the roadway, potholes, bad lighting, and obscured or missing signs can all lead to a multiple-vehicle crash.

Someone who is injured in an accident because of this negligence may place a claim against that government entity to recover fair compensation. Because the timeline for filing a government claim is much shorter than other personal injuries, enlisting the help of a lawyer can be helpful. In this way, the injured party can be assured that the claim will be filed in a timely manner before the statute of limitations expires.
