Accident on Southbound I-5 Involves Three Vehicles

A multiple-vehicle crash in Sacramento on May 17 occurred on I-5 that made the evening commute more difficult for some drivers. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) police report stated that the accident occurred shortly after 5:00 p.m. along southbound Interstate 5 just south of Airport Boulevard. The crash involved a Hyundai Elantra, a BMW SUV, and a pickup.

Traffic Halted for About an Hour Following Multiple Vehicle Crash

Emergency responders with the Sacramento Fire Department were called to the scene to assess a patient with a complaint of pain following the accident. Information was not provided on whether that patient was taken to a hospital or treated at the accident scene. The roadway was reopened shortly after 6:00 p.m. An investigation by the CHP is being conducted to determine the cause of the multiple-vehicle crash and to assign fault.

Why Highway Accidents Happen

A multiple-vehicle crash on a highway isn’t surprising considering how close together the vehicles are to each other and the higher speeds. However, most of the accidents are still caused by a negligent driver. Some of the reasons they happen include:

  • A vehicle tries to cut into a different lane without enough room.
  • One car is tailgating another, and when the one in front slows suddenly, they collide, resulting in a multiple-vehicle crash.
  • A reckless driver is cutting in and out of traffic or speeding, which causes a multiple-vehicle crash.
  • A drunk driver is weaving in the road and crossing in and out of the centerline.
  • The driver is distracted by texting or talking on a cell phone and doesn’t realize there is a traffic stoppage up ahead, which causes a multiple-vehicle crash.
  • A multiple-vehicle crash happens when a driver cuts across lanes to reach an exit.

Claiming Compensation Following a Multiple-Vehicle Crash

People who are injured in a multiple-vehicle crash face medical costs, possible lost wages because they cannot work and pain and suffering. Our injury attorneys have assisted many Sacramentans and other Northern Californians in getting fair compensation and may be able to help you too. We firmly believe that being injured by a negligent motorist is bad enough. The injured party should never have to pay for their own expenses due to an at-fault driver.

Investigating an Accident That Involves Multiple Vehicles

Our investigative team goes to the accident scene to gather the evidence before it disappears or is covered over when the traffic resumes. While there, they perform the following, in addition to other investigative techniques:

  • Forensic reconstruction techniques are used to illustrate how the collision occurred. This illustrates exactly how the crash happened and can point toward which driver/drivers were at fault.
  • The investigators speak to the witnesses to get their account of how the accident occurred.
  • The report filed by the police is examined to ensure its accuracy.
  • Surveillance cameras are sought in the area that might have captured the accident on tape.

Once all the evidence is compiled, it is used by our injury attorneys in building a strong case to support our client’s compensation claim.
