Multi-Vehicle Marysville Collision

I’m Ed Smith, a Marysville car accident lawyer. On the evening of Tuesday, January 17, 2017, a multi-vehicle collision involving four vehicles occurred north of Marysville on Highway 70. Two of the vehicles involved had multiple passengers inside, including members of the Oroville High School Boys’ JV soccer team.

What Happened

The collision occurred shortly after 6:00 p.m. on Highway 70 when the speed of traffic suddenly decreased due to a vehicle making a left turn off of the highway onto a private road. A series of auto accidents took place following the initial crash. The chain of events are listed below:

  • An Oroville resident, Stephen Agee was not able to slow down his Chevrolet Suburban in time and rear-ended a Ford transit van that was making a left turn onto a private road. The van was being driven by Oroville resident Richard Hogan.
  • The force of the above collision sent the Ford van into the back of a Scion XB, which was being driven by Paradise resident Elizabeth Whitmore.
  • The Scion was pushed into the rear end of an Acura TL, which was being driven by Adam Hansen of Gridley.
  • Finally, the Acura was shoved into the rear end of a Toyota Tacoma, which was being driven by Oroville resident Gary Souza.

The cause of this multi-vehicle accident is currently under investigation. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) usually prepares a report in a week to ten days. At this time, they do not believe drugs or alcohol to be a factor in this multi-vehicle auto accident.

Were There Injuries

Passengers in the Chevrolet Suburban and Ford transit van were members of the Oroville High School boys’ junior varsity soccer team. The team was returning to Oroville from a soccer match in Yuba City earlier in the day. Members of the team were transported by ambulance to Rideout Memorial Hospital in Marysville for evaluation of minor to moderate injuries sustained in this multi-vehicle accident. None of the other drivers involved requested medical aid at the scene of the collision.

Chain Reaction Collisions

Chain reaction collisions typically occur when more than two vehicles hit one another in a series of rear-end accidents. Generally, they occur due to the force of the first collision. These types of collisions may be the result of single drivers negligence, they can also be due to multiple drivers’ carelessness.
