Multi-Vehicle Accident on Highway 101 in Montecito

I’m Ed Smith, a Montecito car accident lawyer. An accident involving multiple vehicles occurred on Thursday, April 27, along Highway 101. Traffic was reported to be backed up, and one lane was closed down by the California Highway Patrol while an investigation into the cause was conducted and wrecked vehicles were removed.

What Happened

The seven-vehicle crash occurred during the middle of the afternoon near the Olive Road Exit along Highway 101. All of the vehicles ended up in the middle divider between the north and southbound lanes. There were no injuries reported as a result of the crash. No additional details about the accident are available at the time of this reporting.

Multi-Vehicle Accidents

Chain reaction accidents, such as the one that recently occurred in Montecito, may be the result of negligence on the part of one vehicle or numerous vehicles. It is compounded by collecting pertinent information from the driver of each vehicle, passengers and witnesses. However, law enforcement officials at the scene will collect evidence, including the position of each vehicle and driver information, along with any telltale signs of negligence such as skid marks or pavement damage. In some cases, an accident may be caused by texting and driving, someone who has been drinking or using drugs, speeding or simply following too close.

Following the Law

According to the California Driver Handbook, continual scanning is necessary to stay safe on roads and highways. By keeping a safe space between your vehicle and others on the road, you are given the opportunity to stop or react suddenly when needed. Since many rear-end collisions are caused by driving too closely to the vehicle ahead, distance between vehicles counts. Chain reactions can cause a vehicle to be struck multiple times from different directions, injuries can be severe.

Motor Vehicle Accidents and Resulting Injuries

From fractured bones to severe head trauma, spinal cord injury and amputations of a limb or digit to neck injuries, the victim of an accident may face hospitalization and a long recuperative period. This, of course, can translate into high medical bills, the cost of prescription medicines, rehabilitation and loss of income. Rather than facing those expenses alone, an experienced personal injury attorney can help recover those costs. That way, the injured victim can have the peace of mind that at least the financial end of this tragedy is taken care of.
