The California Highway Patrol reported a fatality in a multi-car accident involving a big rig on SR-41 south of Fresno on July 24, 2023. Officials said the crash occurred at approximately 12:45 p.m. on State Route 41 at Elkhorn Avenue in Fresno County.

According to authorities, a Ford truck was headed southbound on SR-41. This stretch of the roadway turns into a two-lane highway from a four-lane. The Ford allegedly collided with stopped traffic at the intersection of State Route 41 and Elkhorn Avenue. A preliminary investigation by CHP traffic officers revealed that the Ford driver was allegedly distracted and failed to stop for stopped traffic ahead.
The Ford reportedly rear-ended a Toyota. The impact of the collision propelled the Toyota into the Chevrolet in front of it. The Chevrolet was then pushed into a tractor-trailer. A total of four vehicles were involved in the incident. The occupants of the Chevrolet sustained severe injuries. Officials indicated that there were seven parties injured in the multi-vehicle collision.
Three occupants were inside the Toyota at the time of the crash. One passenger in the Toyota suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the chain-reaction accident. Officials have identified them as Belinda Chacon, 47, of Lemoore. An infant in the rear seat, identified as Ms. Chacon’s grandchild, was transported via air ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.
