Rider Transported to Hospital Following Motorcyclist Injury Crash

Upon the arrival of first responders with the Sacramento Fire Department, the motorcycle rider was determined to have suffered an injury and was transported to Mercy San Juan Medical Center a few minutes later. The motorcyclist injury accident is being investigated by the CHP to find out how it happened. No additional information was provided on the injuries to the motorcycle rider.

Causes of a Motorcyclist Injury

Motorcycle riders are vulnerable to injuries if they are involved in a traffic accident. Many accidents involve a negligent driver or government entity, and the most common collisions happen in the following ways:

  • Left turns: The most common type of motorcyclist injury occurs when a driver makes a left turn in front of them. In some cases, the motorist says they never saw the motorcycle. In others, they misjudged the distance and speed of the motorcycle.
  • Lane-splitting: Lane-splitting is legal in California as long as the rider does it when traffic is moving slowly. Not all drivers remember to look for a motorcycle to come up between the lanes and may choose this time to move over, resulting in a motorcyclist injury accident.
  • Head-on collisions: On rural roads, a driver may decide to pass another vehicle without ensuring the lane is clear up ahead.
  • Distracted driving: Distracted drivers are responsible for the highest number of accidents. In most cases, the driver is texting or chatting on a cell phone, which can make them miss seeing a motorcycle sharing the road.
  • Stopping short: A motorist who stops short when a motorcycle rider is coming up from behind risks the rider’s bike slamming into the back of their vehicle. This can cause the rider to be ejected, which often results in a serious motorcyclist injury.
  • Poorly maintained roadways: Because a motorcycle has only two wheels, it is more likely to crash if it strikes a pothole, loose gravel, or dirt, or a fissure in the roadway. When poor maintenance leads to a motorcycle accident injury, a claim may be placed against the government entity in charge. However, the timeline for filing is much shorter, so contacting an injury attorney as soon as possible is a good idea.

Our team of injury attorneys has helped many injured motorcyclists get fair compensation following a collision caused by someone else’s negligence. Motorcycle riders have the same rights as others using the roads and can face high medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering, which adds financial stress to an already difficult situation.
