Officials in Merced County reported a motorcycle crash on SR-99 close to Collier Road on the afternoon of June 25, 2023. According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. on southbound State Route 99.

Preliminary Information on the Motorcycle Crash on SR-99 Near Collier Road

CHP traffic officers reported that a man, age 47, was riding a 2013 Yamaha motorcycle with a female passenger, age 41. The motorcyclist and his passenger, both Patterson residents, were headed southbound on SR-99 when a Mercedes-Benz SUV allegedly suddenly stopped in front of them. Officials indicated that the SUV was traveling at approximately 65 mph moments before coming to a complete stop for traffic.

The biker attempted to veer to the left in an attempt to avoid the SUV but crashed into a concrete guardrail in the center median and struck the SUV. The impact of the collision propelled both occupants off the motorcycle, officials said. The man operating the bike was transported via air ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries. His passenger was treated for minor injuries at an area hospital. The Mercedes-Benz driver was uninjured, according to officials.

This was the second motorcycle accident that occurred in Merced County that same weekend. The first crash occurred shortly before 9:00 a.m. on June 24, 2023. A man from Mendota, age 19, was riding a 2000 Yamaha motorcycle southbound on SR-165. For unknown reasons, the motorcyclist allegedly laid the bike down before crashing into a wooden pole. Sadly, the biker was declared deceased at the crash site. Both motorcycle crashes in Merced County are under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.

Financial Recovery in Car vs. Motorcycle Accident Cases

When an individual sustains injuries in a vehicle versus motorcycle collision through no fault of their own, they may have grounds for a claim for damages. This is generally in the form of a bodily injury claim against the driver responsible for the accident. Compensation in a case of personal injury generally includes economic and non-economic damages. These may include costs of rehabilitation and therapy, expenses for necessary medical appliances, costs of required household services, loss of enjoyment of life, pain and suffering, diminished earning potential, wage loss, past and future medical bills, etc.

Given the potential for serious injuries in a motorcycle accident, there may be concerns regarding coverage for the incident. Emergency transportation, such as a medical helicopter, may cost thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars, not to mention the costs of treatment at the emergency room. It is recommended to carry uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage of at least $100,000/$300,000. You will have peace of mind, financial security, and valuable protection, knowing that you have that coverage available to you if injured in a crash caused by a driver with little to no insurance.

Insurance companies, including your own, may make the recovery process challenging to navigate. Having legal counsel on your side can help level the playing field when dealing with difficult insurers. An attorney understands the defense tactics commonly used by insurance carriers and can advocate for your rights throughout the legal process. The right injury lawyer will have the resources, expertise, and skills to handle your case from start to finish. That way, you can focus on your well-being and recovery.
