Motorcycle Crash Fatality Near Los Banos
Authorities in Merced County reported a fatality following a recent car vs. motorcycle crash near Los Banos. The incident occurred shortly after 4:00 p.m. on State Route 165 in the vicinity of Mervel Avenue, officials indicated in a press release.

In a preliminary investigation by CHP traffic officers, it was determined that a 30-year-old Merced resident was driving a 2017 Nissan Altima northbound on SR-165. At the same time, a Santa Maria man, age 79, was riding a 2019 Harley Davidson motorcycle on northbound SR-165.
According to officials, the Nissan driver claimed they stopped their vehicle in the roadway for a dog. The motorcyclist was reportedly approaching and allegedly struck the rear of the Altima. The impact of the collision propelled the man off the bike, causing him to suffer serious injuries.
The motorcycle rider was taken by air ambulance to a Modesto area hospital, where he was later declared deceased. The Nissan driver was uninjured in the crash, the California Highway Patrol said. An investigation into the incident is ongoing, and no other details have been released.
