Crash on U.S. 50 Seriously Injures Motorcycle Rider

A motorcycle collision with a passenger vehicle in Sacramento on December 7 resulted in major injuries to the rider. The crash was reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) shortly after noon along the westbound U.S. 50 just east of the Howe Avenue exit ramp. When Sac Fire first responders arrived, they found the motorcycle rider awake and alert but discovered he had suffered major leg injuries in his collision with a Hyundai Sonata.

Sigalert Issued Following Major Injury Motorcycle Collision

A Sigalert was issued for the westbound traffic lanes on the Lincoln Highway because of the accident. Motorists were advised that they could expect heavy congestion and delays. It was not reported what hospital the motorcycle rider was taken to for treatment and whether those in the passenger vehicle were injured. The CHP is investigating to place fault and determine how the motorcycle collision occurred.

Compensation Following a Motorcycle Collision

Because motorcyclists have little protection in a crash with a motor vehicle, serious injuries are common. In addition to having to spend time in a hospital and rehabilitation, along with mounting medical bills, the rider will probably lose time at work. If a negligent motorist caused their injuries, they may place a claim for fair compensation, including for their pain and suffering, with the help of an injury attorney.

Negligence That Causes a Motorcycle Collision

Because the drivers of passenger vehicles don’t tend to watch for motorcycle riders, they are often negligent, which leads to accidents. Some accidents caused by drivers include:

  • The motorist begins to change lanes without looking for a motorcycle rider or miss seeing them in their blind spot. A serious motorcycle collision can be the result.
  • Mechanical problems: A motorcycle that has a defective part such as the tire, engine, or brake can result in a crash involving another vehicle. When a defective part is the cause of a motorcycle collision, a product liability claim may be placed against the manufacturer and others in the production line.
  • A driver turns in front of a motorcyclist: It is difficult to judge the speed of a vehicle coming toward you, and the other motorist may depend on them to slow down or stop. This lack of care on the part of a motorist is the most common reason for a motorcycle collision.
  • A motorist stops suddenly: Stopping suddenly in front of a motorcycle can lead to the rider being ejected and tossed over the top of the motor vehicle. Serious injuries and fatalities are the results.
  • Government negligence: A government entity is in charge of ensuring that our roadways are safe. However, unrepaired potholes, weakened or aged guardrails, and other problems can lead to motorcycle collision injuries. The government entity may be responsible for the injuries to the rider.
