Accident on West 2nd Street Results in Death of Motorcyclist

A collision on the evening of September 25 resulted in a motorcycle accident fatality in Rio Linda. Officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrived at the scene of the collision, which occurred around 9:00 p.m. The accident happened at West 2nd Street and West Elkhorn Boulevard and was initially reported as a hit-and-run. It was updated later to say that the driver of an Impala was stopped to make a left turn in the intersection when their vehicle was T-boned by the motorcycle. The rider was ejected as a result of the collision and passed away from the impact.

Witnesses to the accident were questioned by authorities and released. Elkhorn Boulevard was closed in both directions while an investigation was conducted by authorities. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has identified the decedent as 30-year-old Mark Ward of Sacramento.

Causes of Motorcycle Accidents

One of the major reasons for a motorcycle accident injury or fatality is when a driver turns in front of them. In these cases, video footage from traffic surveillance cameras can show how the collision occurred. Motorcycle accidents caused by a negligent driver can also occur from:

  • A motorist running a red light or stop sign.
  • A driver making a right turn without looking for oncoming traffic.
  • Drivers who are speeding and cannot stop in time to avoid a motorcycle accident.
  • Negligence by a driver who is texting or talking on a cell phone instead of paying attention to the traffic.
  • A drunk driver or motorist who has been using drugs.
  • The driver misjudging the distance from the motorcyclist or ignoring who has the right of way.

Losing a Loved One in a Motorcycle Accident

Losing a loved one in a motorcycle accident is something few can understand. Family members are suddenly caught in a web of disbelief, anger, and grief. The family may also find themselves financially challenged, especially if the loved one provided support. In addition, they feel the need to ensure that the defendant will not wantonly do the same thing to another family. This is where a wrongful death lawyer can help. He or she will build a strong case against the at-fault person, so the family will not only obtain compensation for their loved one’s death, but it gives them the justice they need.

Compassion and Legal Acumen

Our firm sympathizes with the family members who lost someone in a motorcycle accident. We understand the emotional upheaval they are facing and their fears that without the loved one, they might not be able to carry on. While filing a wrongful death claim and receiving compensation may help the family avoid financial disaster, it will not bring back their loved one or the love and emotional support they gave.

Investigation of a Wrongful Death

Our investigators are experienced in searching for evidence in a wrongful death claim. They talk to witnesses and review the police report for errors. In addition, they look for video footage and perform accident reconstruction. Possible government negligence isn’t ignored either since a malfunctioning traffic signal, overgrown foliage, or even a pothole may have caused a motorcycle accident. When the investigators are finished, our lawyers compile the evidence into a case that supports our client’s claim.
