Motorcycle Accident Fatally Injures Patterson Man

I’m Ed Smith, a Modesto Wrongful Death Lawyer. A motorcycle ride charity event was organized by the Los Banos Police Department on Saturday, August 19, 2017. The charity ride took a tragic turn when one of the riders was involved in a motorcycle accident near Merced.

Charity Ride Details

A charity event was set up by the Los Banos Police Department to benefit officers Aaron Pinon and Kristifer Hew and their loved ones caring for them. The two officers were dispatched to the Pacheco Village apartments near Los Banos on July 31, 2017. A 39-year-old suspect managed to obtain a gun from one of the officers and, tragically, shot them both. The suspect shot Officer Hew three times, once each in the head near his eye, leg and torso. Officer Pinon suffered one gunshot wound to the upper torso. Both officers sustained traumatic injuries that would require extensive treatment and care.

Approximately 100 motorcyclists gathered around the police station in Los Banos around 12:00 pm for a fundraiser ride. The riders were expected to travel through Merced to Turlock in honor of the two injured officers. The motorcyclists had anticipated being back in Los Banos for a dinner organized by the Los Banos Sportsmen’s Association. Unfortunately, three of the riders were unable to make their way back to the celebration due to an unexpected accident.

What Happened?

A 41-year-old Patterson man was riding his motorcycle along Highway 59 in the vicinity of Reilly Road near Merced at approximately 12:50 pm. The Patterson man was one of the lead riders in the organized motorcycle group charity ride. For unknown reasons, the man lost control of his bike after he allegedly hard braked to slow down for stopped traffic ahead. The man was then ejected from his motorcycle. Another biker riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle was unable to avoid the man, resulting in a serious collision.

Was Anybody Injured?

The rider and passenger on the Harley Davidson involved in the motorcycle accident suffered moderate injuries. They were both taken to an area hospital for treatment and are expected to recover. The 41-year-old Patterson man involved in the crash was identified as Jason Williams. Williams was transported to a Modesto hospital where he later passed away.

We would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family members of  Mr. Williams who passed away in this tragic crash. We also wish for a speedy and full recovery for the other two injured parties.

Patterson Man Forever Remembered

Jason Williams was a beloved friend, husband and father of three. He will be forever remembered by those who knew him for his loving and devoted character. A GoFundMe page has been created by his family to cover the expenses of his memorial.
