Mother and Two Children Hurt in Turlock Multi-Vehicle Collision

I’m Ed Smith, a Turlock personal injury lawyer. A multi-vehicle collision on Wednesday, March 29, 2017, caused traumatic injuries to two children and sent their mother to the hospital. The intersection, along North Golden State Boulevard in Turlock where the auto accident occurred, was closed while investigators reconstructed the scene, and it was cleared later.

What Happened

A Newman woman, 27, driving a Volvo with two children in the backseat, was traveling east along Fulkerth Road at about noon and attempted a left turn onto North Golden State Boulevard when a man driving an Acura, coming west along East Hawkeye Avenue, slammed into the passenger side of her car. The force of the impact sent both cars into a Toyota pickup stopped at a red light on Hawkeye Avenue.

Eyewitness to the Accident

According to the driver of the pickup, who was stopped at the intersection, he witnessed the Acura strike the Volvo, which spun around several times and hit his Toyota truck. He was quoted as saying that both vehicles were moving fast at the time of the crash.  He went on to report that he, along with several other individuals, opened the Volvo doors and attempted to remove the children from the vehicle, but he found the children in the backseat of the Volvo unresponsive, saying that they appeared asleep. It was reported by Turlock police that all individuals in the accident had been wearing seat belts and that the children were in car seats. The Turlock Fire Department was also on the scene of this multi-vehicle collision.

Persons Injured in the Crash

The children were air lifted from the accident scene by two separate Medi-Flight helicopters, reportedly with traumatic injuries, to a hospital. The driver of the car was transported by an American Medical Response ambulance to a hospital for medical treatment. The man who was driving the Acura received minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene, a spokesman for the Turlock Police Department reported. The driver of the Toyota, a 65-year-old resident of Turlock, was uninjured. No additional details about the accident or condition of those injured has been released as of the time of this report. This multi-vehicle collision is being investigated by the Turlock Major Accident Investigation Team.
