Modesto Red Light Crash

I’m Ed Smith, a Modesto personal injury lawyer. Three vehicles were involved in a severe automobile accident during the afternoon hours of Thursday, February 2, 2017. This accident appears to be caused by a negligent driver who failed to stop for a red light in downtown Modesto.

What Happened?

A Chevrolet sedan was traveling northbound and a Chrysler minivan was traveling southbound along 14th Street in the vicinity of J Street in Modesto. Both vehicles collided with a Dodge Durango that was traveling eastbound along J Street at the intersection. The tremendous impact from the crash caused one vehicle to land on its roof and another to land on its side.

Were There Any Injuries?

Yes. Firefighters were dispatched to the scene of the Modesto automobile accident to assist a woman that was trapped in one of the three crashed vehicles. The woman was taken by ambulance to the hospital for what rescuers indicated appeared to be minor to moderate injuries. A minor occupant in one of the vehicles suffered an arm injury. Another accident victim may have been uninjured refusing treatment.

Who Caused the Crash?

According to Sergeant Kalani Souza from the Modesto Police Department, a red light violation was found to be the cause of this automobile accident. It typically takes one to two weeks for a traffic collision report to be prepared by the investigating agency. When the report is released it usually contains findings as to fault. However, sometimes traffic reports can be inconclusive or in error. It is important to have an experienced Modesto car accident lawyer investigating the sequence of events leading up to the collision to properly determine liability in a crash. The lawyer can help recover compensation for your injuries and other damages.

The following video demonstrates the severe extent of this Modesto crash. Firefighters were dispatched to the scene of a multi-vehicle accident at the intersection of 14th Street and J Street. Firefighters immediately assisted a woman that was trapped in her vehicle. Crews had to use extrication tools to safely remove her from her vehicle. This process took about 15 minutes. Thankfully, she survived the incident.
