Merced Solo Vehicle Fatality Accident
I’m Ed Smith, a Merced car accident lawyer. During the morning commute on Wednesday, February 15, 2017, a single-vehicle accident occurred on Highway 140 in Merced.
What Happened?
According to reports by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a 38-year-old woman was traveling westbound on Highway 140 near the Orchard Drive off-ramp in Merced with her two minor children in the vehicle when for unknown reasons the woman drifted off of the highway and crashed into a concrete embankment near the canal.
Were There Injuries?
When emergency first responders arrived on scene they discovered that the two minor children in the back seat suffered minor injuries in the accident. The children were taken by ambulance to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for evaluation and treatment of their injuries. The driver was pinned inside of her vehicle and was extricated by the fire department. She succumbed to the traumatic injuries she suffered from the impact shortly after the accident.
Investigation and Highway Congestion
Highway 140 was backed up for approximately 2 hours on Wednesday morning following the accident while crews worked to clear the scene and investigators collected the necessary information needed to complete their reports. At this time it is not known if distracted driving, driving under the influence or speeding were contributing factors in this tragic accident.
