Merced Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident

I’m Ed Smith, a Merced personal injury lawyer. A woman was walking in Merced during the evening hours of Tuesday, June 20, 2017. The woman was hit by an oncoming car, which caused her to suffer major injuries.

What Happened?

A woman was walking along G Street in the vicinity of Yosemite Avenue at about 9:30 pm. A silver Honda was traveling northbound along G Street when the vehicle collided with the woman. The driver of the Honda allegedly fled the scene, leaving the victim alone to suffer from their injuries.

What Type of Injuries?

Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene of the pedestrian accident. When crews arrived, they discovered an injured woman in the roadway with severe injuries to the lower portions of her body. She was transported to a hospital in Modesto for treatment.

Cause of the Pedestrian Accident

The cause of the pedestrian accident has not yet been released by authorities. A Traffic Collision Report usually takes from seven to ten days to be processed. Traffic reports may sometimes be in error pertaining to fault. It is vital, especially when a victim has been injured in an accident, to contact an experienced Merced personal injury lawyer who can conduct a thorough pedestrian accident investigation of the scene and study the sequence of events leading up to the crash to pinpoint liability.

Who is at Fault of a Pedestrian Accident?

It is important to identify the at-fault party when a victim has suffered traumatic or fatal injuries in a pedestrian accident. If a driver crashes into a pedestrian, it is the driver’s responsibility to remain at the scene of the accident until authorities arrive. All motorists carry the obligation to be vigilant for pedestrians and come to a complete stop at crosswalks. It is also the duty of all pedestrians to be visible for drivers on the road.

A study by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) indicates that approximately 5,000 pedestrians are killed yearly. A 2012 study found that 76,000 victims suffered injuries in such accidents. Driver negligence can be due to several factors such as distracted driving, drunk driving and reckless driving.
