Marysville Man Hit Protecting Injured Person

I’m Ed Smith, a Marysville Personal Injury Lawyer. Most people hear about good Samaritans being honored with news stories or government awards; however, the world doesn’t always function as planned. Such was the case when a Marysville man was hit by a car while trying to protect another injured person.

Driver Exited the Vehicle for Unknown Reasons

At around 11 PM on Thursday, May 18, 2017, a man from Carmichael was driving his Saturn north along Highway 65. For reasons that are still unclear, he brought his vehicle to a stop in the northbound lane and decided to exit the car. He then began walking south in the southbound lane of the highway. While walking with traffic, he was struck by a Toyota Camry, suffering traumatic injuries. After the driver of the Saturn was struck, likely suffering pedestrian injuries, he was knocked back into the northbound lanes where he was hit by another vehicle, this time a Toyota Sienna minivan. The drivers of the Camry and the Sienna stopped and were present when police arrived.

A Good Samaritan Stops to Help

A Marysville man driving a tow truck noticed the horrific scene and decided to offer assistance. He stopped his tow truck behind the man who was injured in an effort to prevent another vehicle from striking the injured party, potentially causing catastrophic personal injury. Unfortunately, as the tow truck driver was trying to warn others about the accident, he was struck by a Ford Edge. The driver of the tow truck suffered significant injuries and was transported to the nearby Sutter Roseville Medical Center. The driver of the Toyota Camry was also taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The police do not suspect any of the involved parties of drunk driving.

Pedestrian Accidents can Cause Major Injuries

When people are operating a motor vehicle at night, it is important to watch for obstacles potentially concealed by the darkness. This means trees, cars, animals, and other people. While nobody should exit a motor vehicle on a highway (unless involved in an emergency), it is important for drivers to make sure that their headlights are functioning properly. A pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle can suffer major injuries, such as abdominal trauma and chest trauma. These injuries could even lead to a wrongful death. To avoid these tragedies, people should exercise caution when driving or walking along a road at night.
