A woman in Manteca won the Powerball lottery for $785,000 after scanning her old lottery tickets.

The Powerball is a lottery where the numbers are drawn on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10:59 pm Eastern Time. The game consists of drawing out five white balls out of a container with 69 other balls. There is also one red ball that is drawn out of a container with 26 other red balls. A Powerball jackpot winner must match all five white balls and the red Powerball. The jackpot can be paid out annually in 30 payments for 29 years. However, if the winner decides to take all the winnings at once, there is a tax fee attached.
A Visit to Capitola and the Rest is History
58-year-old Denice Harvey, of Manteca, purchased a Powerball lottery ticket during a family vacation to Capitola. According to Harvey, she purchased the ticket at the Capitola Quality Market on 300 Capitola Avenue. Harvey scanned her ticket at an Oakdale convenience shop where she called over the shop clerk to double-check her ticket. Initially, Harvey thought that she had won $785 dollars but she was in shock when the clerk informed her that she had won $785,000.

Denice Harvey, a grandmother of eight, believes that the jackpot winnings came at the right time for her after the recent passing of her husband. Harvey stated that she had lost her home and car while working three jobs. Harvey decided to purchase a small home with her jackpot winnings so she can have a place for her children and grandchildren to come visit and stay for long weekends with her.
