Man Surrenders in Vallejo Hit and Run Fatality

I’m Ed Smith, a Vallejo auto accident attorney. A man who police say was allegedly involved in a deadly hit and run crash in Vallejo, turned himself into Suisun City Police on August 20, 2016.

Sonoma Boulevard Hit and Run Fatality

Twenty-five-year-old, Dominic Smith, was questioned by detectives of the Vallejo Police Department. Detectives had been trying to solve the deadly crash that took place around 11:00 p.m. on the night of August 11, 2016. The crash occurred along Sonoma Boulevard in Vallejo.

Man Who Died Was a 47-Year Old Richmond Resident

Sadly, officers discovered that 47-year-old, Matthew Bennett, of Richmond, had died after being struck and killed by a car traveling southbound along Sonoma Boulevard.

Authorities began looking for the hit-and-run vehicle and driver. They discovered an abandoned 2002 Nissan Maxima in another part of Vallejo the following day. Detectives arrested a resident of Richmond believed to be involved in the crash but also continued to search for Smith and 21-year-old, Taylor Gallon.

The name of the Richmond resident has not been made available by police.

Charges Filed Include Hit and Run (Causing Death) and Vehicular Manslaughter

Officers from the traffic division of the Vallejo Police Department arrived at the Suisun City Police station and interviewed Smith. Smith provided a statement about the accident. Police said they subsequently arrested him on suspicion vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run resulting in a fatality. Smith is being held at the jail in Solano County.

Vallejo detectives want to question Gallon, but have been unable to find him.

Who Pays For Damages When Someone Gets Hit By a Hit-and-Run Motorist?

Typically, a claim can be filed under your own policy of auto insurance provided you have uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage. If you don’t, but someone in the residence where you live has this type of insurance, you will usually be covered. Please contact me if you have further questions.
