Man Suffers Limb Loss in Crash

Accident Details
A yellow Chevrolet Aveo was traveling northbound along Interstate 5 near Howard Road at approximately 5:40 pm. The Chevrolet allegedly attempted to pass traffic in the center divider of the roadway and lost control. The Chevrolet veered through all northbound lanes of travel and went down a steep embankment. The car overturned multiple times, drove through a barbed wire fence and came to rest inside an almond orchard.
Reported Injuries
The Chevrolet Aveo appeared to have been the only vehicle involved in the accident. The car carried a 29-year-old Bakersfield man and a 27-year-old San Lorenzo woman. Sadly, the collision caused the man to suffer an amputation injury to his arm. He was transported via ambulance to a Modesto area hospital. The woman was reportedly pregnant at the time of the crash. She suffered a forehead laceration and was taken via air ambulance to a hospital in Modesto as well.
What Caused the Accident?
The cause of the accident has not yet been determined. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has been assigned to handle the investigation.
