Man Severely Injured During Chico Rollover Accident

Man Severely Hurt During Chico Rollover Accident

On Friday, August 14, 2020, one person was seriously hurt during a Chico rollover accident. California Highway Patrol (CHP) indicated that the collision took place in the morning and involved a single pickup truck. While one other individual was in the vehicle at the time of the accident, she reportedly only suffered minor injuries. The cause of the accident is under CHP investigation.

Chico Rollover Accident Information

CHP stated that the accident happened on Highway 99 in Chico near the on-ramp for East First avenue. Police said that a female driver was heading north on the highway in the fast lane and was about to change lanes when she saw two objects lying on the road in front of her vehicle. The driver reportedly attempted to avoid the objects, but lost control of the pickup truck while making an avoidance maneuver.

After the driver lost control of her truck, the vehicle overturned and traveled off-road. The vehicle eventually rolled into a tree on an embankment off the side of the highway, causing major damage to the truck.

Response and Investigation

Directly after the accident was reported, CHP sent emergency teams to the site of the collision. At the accident scene, responders discovered that the male passenger of the vehicle was seriously hurt and had him transported to a nearby hospital via ambulance. Whether or not the driver received hospital care was not reported.

Other than hazards in the road, no suspected factors have been mentioned by police. Additionally, CHP has indicated that drugs and alcohol are not suspected causal factors.

Rollover Accidents

Rollover collisions are highly likely to cause serious trauma, largely due to weak vehicle roofs. If the roof of a car isn’t properly designed or is made of poor-quality materials, it is liable to crush during a rollover, intruding into the vehicle’s cabin and injuring occupants. In accident cases that involve roof-crush injuries, the company responsible for manufacturing the vehicle is often considered a liable party and can be held financially responsible by injured individuals.

However, your attorney needs to be able to determine that the vehicle was unsafe in order to hold these companies responsible. For this reason, it’s important to preserve your vehicle as evidence following the crash.

Dangerous Roads

Often, governments responsible for roadway maintenance are considered liable after a crash involving a dangerous road. This means that these governments can be held financially liable, just like auto manufacturers and/or negligent drivers. Critically, cases against government entities need to be filed quickly and will not be heard if you file late.
