Man Killed in Ukiah Crash

I’m Ed Smith, a Ukiah car accident lawyer. On Monday, July 24, 2017, a man from Santa Rosa received fatal injuries as the result of a motor vehicle accident just north of Ukiah.

Accident Details

According to public reports provided by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the accident took place at around 7 p.m. on Highway 101 close to the intersection of Central Avenue. David Lopez, a 61-year-old male resident of Santa Rosa, had reportedly been driving a 2010 Toyota Prius southbound on Highway 101 when he lost control of his vehicle for reasons not currently understood.

CHP indicated to reporters that, after Lopez lost control, the vehicle traveled off of the roadway and down an embankment on the side of the highway. No other vehicles were reported to have been involved in this accident.

Response and Injury

Officials from CHP as well as local firefighters and paramedics responded to the accident. When responders reached the vehicle, they found Lopez still inside the driver seat of the Prius. Lopez was reportedly unresponsive at this time.

Authorities noted that paramedics went through “extensive efforts” in order to revive Lopez. However, after several attempts at restoring vital signs, Lopez was declared dead at the scene of the collision.

Investigation

Authorities have reported that they do not know what caused Lopez to lose control of his vehicle. Additionally, an official from the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office indicated that Lopez had been on his way back to his hometown of Santa Rosa from Albany, Oregon. An investigation into the incident is currently being conducted.

Another Recent Ukiah Collision

This tragic accident happened not long after another recent fatal Ukiah collision. The accident occurred on Friday, July 21, 2017, when three vehicles collided in an accident on Highway 20.

According to CHP, an elderly couple had been driving a Nissan Altima on Highway 20 and attempted to turn off of the highway onto Road 44. While turning, the Altima was struck from behind by another vehicle. The impact of this collision sent the Altima into the eastbound lane where it was struck again by a large semi-truck.

Both of the occupants of the Altima suffered fatal injuries in the collision. The driver of the other passenger vehicle sustained moderate traumatic injuries and was transported to a local hospital to receive medical care.
