Man Struck by His Own Vehicle in Deadly Vallejo Accident

On Thursday, March 11, 2021, one person sadly lost his life after he was struck by his own vehicle during a Vallejo accident. The decedent has since been identified by the Solano County Sheriff’s Department as Lascelles Martin, a 68-year-old Vallejo resident. The accident involved just a single vehicle, and no other individuals sustained injuries. A spokesperson from the Vallejo Police Department (VPD) referred to the event as a “freak accident” and indicated that it remains under investigation.

Accident Details

The accident occurred at around 7:00 p.m. According to reports, Martin parked his vehicle and got out to walk around. Afterward, his vehicle started accelerating for unknown reasons and ran him over. Witnesses contacted police and emergency staff were rushed out to the site. At the scene, responders found Martin with critical trauma. Sadly, Martin passed away due to his injuries. Whether or not he was hospitalized has not been reported.

Investigation

As police continue to look into what could have caused this crash, VPD has not released a statement regarding suspected factors. Often, accidents like this one happen because of poorly built or defective car parts that cause vehicles to malfunction. When this happens, it’s frequently possible to hold the manufacturer of the vehicle or other parties in the supply chain responsible for damages through a personal injury or wrongful death claim. These kinds of claims are referred to as “auto products liability cases.”

Auto Products Liability

In the American marketplace, companies are expected to ensure that their products are reasonably safe. For this reason, if a vehicle malfunctions leading to a deadly accident, that company is often considered negligent. Not only is the manufacturer potentially liable to pay for damages, but wholesalers and retailers may also share financial responsibility.

With auto products liability cases, families need to be able to prove that the vehicle was defective in order to successfully obtain compensation. Because of this, it is important to keep the vehicle after the accident so that your attorney can have it inspected and used as evidence for your case.

Wrongful Death Damages

The loss of a loved one is a tragedy, and families are often left emotionally devastated. Furthermore, these incidents can also cause major financial problems that may make it hard to focus on healing and grieving. For instance, families can be left without a source of income or might be straddled with medical expenses related to the fatal accident. These issues might feel overwhelming, but it is possible to reach out to a professional for help. A Vallejo personal injury lawyer with experience handling wrongful death claims can help you understand what your family can obtain as compensation from at-fault parties.
