Man and Woman Killed in Santa Ynez Motorcycle Accident

I’m Ed Smith, a Santa Ynez motorcycle accident attorney. A man and a woman were killed in an early morning accident on Sunday in Santa Ynez.

Time and Location of the Crash

The fatal motorcycle accident occurred on Sunday, October 15 around 8am. The crash occurred on Highway 101 in the Santa Ynez Valley, just north of Buellton. The the accident happened on the southbound side of the road, roughly one mile south of the interchange for Highway 154.

What We Know

As of Monday morning, officials have announced that both riders of the motorcycle suffered fatal injuries in the accident. Emergency responders from the California Highway Patrol (CHP), American Medical Response, and Santa Barbara County Fire Department were dispatched to the crash scene on Sunday morning.

According to a spokesperson from the fire department, a 50-year-old man was declared dead at the scene. It is presumed that the male was operating the three-wheeled motorcycle. The driver was thrown from the bike and hit the center guardrail. The spokesperson said that the female passenger, presumed to be in her fifties, was also thrown from the bike into the roadway where she was hit by a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

We would like to extend our sincerest condolences to the friends and family of the deceased motorcyclists during this difficult time.

The Investigation

Emergency responders found the motorcycle resting upright almost 100 yards from where the riders were thrown from it. The crash is being investigated by CHP officers from the Buellton station. Also dispatched to the scene was the Coroner’s Unit of the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Department. Neither of the riders has been identified yet by authorities. It is not known at this time if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash or if there were any other vehicles involved.
