Major Suisun Collision

I’m Ed Smith, a Suisun car accident lawyer. On Tuesday, August 1, 2017, a rollover collision involving a single vehicle killed a 28-year-old mother and seriously injured five children ranging in age from 3 months to 8 years old. Details of this accident reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) appears below.

Accident Details

According to CHP Officer David Harvey, the accident occurred on Highway 12 just south of Suisun at about 5:30 p.m. The woman, who was identified on Wednesday, August 2, 2012, as Stockton resident Lydellaricia King, had been driving a 1999 Ford Taurus westbound near Nurse Slough Road.

CHP reported that the woman, for unknown reasons, allowed her vehicle to drive off of the highway and onto the dirt shoulder. After driving on the shoulder a short while, the vehicle reportedly overturned several times before coming to a stop. As the car was overturning, noted CHP, the woman and children were ejected from the vehicle.

Injuries and Response

CHP immediately sent emergency medical responders to the scene of the accident after receiving reports indicating that multiple individuals had been injured in the crash. When responders got to the scene of the accident, they found that the driver of the vehicle, as well as five children who had been passengers, had all received serious injuries in the collision.

Three separate helicopter ambulances were called in order to transport the woman and children to different hospitals. The driver was taken to Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Vacaville where she was given emergency care, but eventually succumbed to her injuries and was declared dead shortly after arriving.

The children were all taken to the Children’s Hospital in Oakland so that their major injuries could be treated. CHP officers did not elaborate on the specific injuries that the children sustained, but indicated that the kids were expected to recover.

Major Suisun Accident Investigation

Officers have not reported any information indicating what they believe to have caused this accident and are currently investigating various causal factors. King’s sister spoke to local news reporters and indicated that her sister had been on her way to Fairfield in order to take care of errands. King’s sister also insisted that the deceased woman was not the type to drive a vehicle under the influence of intoxicating substances.

Rollover Accidents

Rollover accidents are very dangerous and have a very high rate of fatal injury. Data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) indicates that 2.7 percent of people involved in rollover accidents in the U.S. loose their lives as a result. This is a much higher fatality rate than that of non-rollover accidents, 0.2 percent.
