However, one of the individuals involved in the collision suffered a major injury and had to be transported to a hospital by emergency responders. A tow truck was called to the scene to remove at least one of the vehicles to be used as evidence in the two-vehicle crash.

Major Injury Types Suffered in a Car Accident

Despite automobile safety improvements, the number of people who are injured or die in traffic accidents is increasing. According to U.S. crash statistics, an average of two million motorists suffers a major injury every year in traffic collisions. The types of injuries include:

  • Traumatic brain injuries: Between 80,000 and 90,000 people suffer from long-term disability due to a TBI every year.
  • Back injuries: Injuries to the back may include pain, loss of movement, and become a chronic problem. In addition, the symptoms of a back injury may come on slowly following a two-vehicle crash and worsen with time.
  • Broken bones: Broken arms and wrists, legs, ankles, and ribs commonly occur in a two-vehicle crash. They can range from a simple break that heals in about six weeks to compound fractures that require surgical repair and pins or plates to connect the damaged bones.
  • Abdominal trauma: The seat belt and airbags can cause abdominal trauma that ranges from internal bleeding to organ damage. These types of injuries usually require emergency surgical intervention and can result in a long hospital stay.
  • Scarring and disfigurement: Unfortunately, a two-vehicle crash can result in facial scarring and disfigurement, which can affect the injured party emotionally and psychologically. Plastic surgery to repair such damage is usually not covered by insurance, but by filing a personal injury claim, the injured party can recover the cost of those restorative surgeries.
  • Cervical sprain or strain: This is a common injury that occurs in a two-vehicle crash, especially if a car is struck from behind. While most people who suffer “whiplash” recover in a few months, other injuries of this type may continue for a year or more, making it difficult for the injured party to work and lead a normal life.

Any of the above injuries can mean hospitalization, high medical bills, unpaid time off work, and the pain and suffering that goes along with the trauma. Our team of injury attorneys has successfully helped many people injured by a negligent driver or other entity to obtain fair compensation that covers their injury expenses, including their pain and suffering. In addition, if the injury is expected to continue into the future, those expenses are factored into the settlement.
