Details on the Major Injury Crash on SR-33 and Husman Road in Merced County

A news release by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Los Banos area office revealed that the incident involved a Grumman U.S. Postal Service mail truck and a GMC. CHP traffic officers reported that the GMC was headed southbound on Highway 33 while the mail truck was traveling northbound.

For unknown reasons, the GMC driver allegedly made a left-hand turn onto eastbound Husman Road in the direct path of the mail truck. The passenger side of the GMC was allegedly struck by the front of the mail truck. The impact of the collision propelled the mail truck causing it to become airborne before it came to a rest on its right side.

The GMC driver, a 36-year-old San Francisco resident, suffered injuries described as minor and was not transported from the scene for medical treatment, CHP reported. A female passenger inside the GMC, a 72-year-old San Francisco resident, was taken to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto for treatment of moderate injuries. The mail truck driver, a 23-year-old Modesto woman, was also transported to Memorial Medical Center to be treated for serious injuries. According to CHP, the cause of the incident remains under investigation.

What to Expect from a Personal Injury Claim Involving a Government Vehicle

Motor vehicle accidents happen all the time on roads in Merced County and throughout California. However, it is essential to understand that crashes involving government vehicles are handled differently than a car accident case. To successfully recover from a public agency for resulting losses, special consideration must be given to the legal process that is involved.

There are many challenges that may accompany a car accident case involving a government vehicle, such as one employed for the United States Postal Service (USPS). This entity is part of the federal government, meaning that a personal injury claim against them is subject to different filing criteria and deadlines.

While the process of seeking fair compensation is not always straightforward in such claims, it is best to leave all aspects of these cases to be handled by an experienced Modesto car accident lawyer. Building these types of cases may prove difficult as they require experience, skills, and resources. For this reason, it is best to consult with an accident attorney with years of experience handling government entity claims.
