Accident on Don Julio Boulevard Causes Major Injury

A major injury was reported in a North Highlands two-vehicle collision on September 29. The accident happened around 12:51 p.m. at Don Julio Boulevard and Garland Court. Officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) said a full-size Chevy Silverado and a Toyota Camry were involved.

Major Injury Accident Under Investigation

First Responders with the Sacramento Fire Department found one individual trapped inside their vehicle. Upon extrication, they discovered the person inside had suffered a major injury and transported them to a nearby hospital. The collision is under investigation by the CHP to discover how it happened and to assign fault in the incident.

Negligence and Traffic Accidents

Traffic accidents are usually caused by someone’s negligence. Unfortunately, it can leave an innocent party with medical bills, they can lose time at work and have to endure the pain and suffering that goes along with it. If a negligent motorist or entity caused the injury, the injured person has the right to claim fair compensation. Over my many years as an injury lawyer, I’ve successfully handled many cases of this type and may be able to do the same for you.

Injuries in a Traffic Accident

Injuries are a common result of a traffic collision. Some of the types of injuries include:

  • Traumatic brain injury: This major injury is the result of the direct impact of the accident or failure of a seat belt or airbag to function.
  • Spinal cord damage: Damage to the spinal cord can cause temporary or permanent paralysis. Those who suffer this major injury may require assistance around the house and will require continuing medical care.
  • Fractured bones: Simple breaks usually heal in about six weeks. However, more serious injuries can require surgery, including the use of plates or pins to repair. This can keep the injured person out of work for an extended period, especially if the fracture is to the pelvis or another major bone.
  • Chest injuries: Impact inside the vehicle or the seat belt and airbags can cause serious chest injuries. They may range from heavy bruising to fractured ribs, a punctured lung, or more.
  • Abdominal trauma: The seatbelt or contact with the dash or steering wheel can cause serious injuries to the abdominal area. Organ damage or internal bleeding can indicate an emergency situation where the patient needs surgery right away.

Negligence as the Cause of a Major Injury

There are many ways in which an accident resulting in a major injury can occur. These include:

  • Improper passing by a driver can lead to a collision. A driver who passes on a blind hill, against the solid line or in other ways that are risky, can cause a head-on crash.
  • Distracted driving is now the number one cause of all types of accidents. Whether the driver is texting, talking on a phone, or changing a radio station, it takes their eyes off the road.
  • Drunk and drugged driving can result in a major injury to another motorist. The affected driver shows poor reflexes and judgment, as well as blurred vision that can affect their ability to drive safely.
