Cottage Way Accident Involved Two Vehicles

A major injury accident occurred in Sacramento on March 26 following a two-vehicle collision. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported the accident occurred in the Arden-Arcade area at Cottage Way and Bell Street around 11:50 a.m. It involved a Toyota 4Runner and a Kia van, with one of the vehicles blocking a traffic lane.

One Patient Transported to Hospital With a Major Injury

A tow truck was required to remove at least one of the involved vehicles. Medics with the Sacramento Fire Department arrived to assess those involved in the accident and discovered one person had suffered a major injury. That patient was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of their serious injuries. The incident is currently being investigated by the CHP to determine how the accident happened and to place fault.

Intersection Accidents

Intersections are pivotal locations for all types of accidents. This includes those involving pedestrians, bicyclists, and motor vehicle operators. The reason why intersections are a crucial accident location is due to their complexity. Multiple vehicles and walkers not only traverse an intersection simultaneously, but they are usually going in different directions.

How Does Intersection Complexity Affect a Major Injury Accident?

Each user of an intersection must maintain vigilance as they progress through it. This means that pedestrians, bicyclists, and motor vehicle operators must be aware of all other users. Many times, drivers look out for other motor vehicles, ignoring pedestrians and bicyclists. This is partly due to habit and lack of adherence to traffic laws.

How Intersections Can Become Safer

This is largely dependent on city and state efforts to increase safety in intersections. It begins with the design of the intersection, proper insertion of traffic signals and signs, and maintenance of lanes so that drivers don’t become confused. Pedestrian crosswalks are an integral part of this safety effort, as are bike lanes.

Reasons for an Intersection Accident

Although the reasons vary depending on the mode of transportation, the following are frequently seen:

  • Distraction: A motorist, pedestrian, or bicyclist can become distracted as they are passing through the intersection by cell phones, music, or conversation. When this happens, they might not be able to react appropriately when a dangerous condition occurs.
  • Drunkenness: Anytime someone takes to the road under the influence of alcohol or drugs, their reasoning and thought clarity will be affected. This can cause a major injury accident.
  • Failure to obey traffic laws: All individuals in an intersection are responsible for their actions, and disobeying traffic laws is a prime reason a major injury accident occurs.

Investigating a Major Injury Accident

As always, our law firm dispatches an investigation team to the scene of an accident. They look for reasons the crash occurred and perform accident reconstruction techniques to determine liability. They also speak to witnesses and obtain video footage of the accident as it occurred in real-time.

Our investigation team reviews police reports for mistakes since they are widely used in insurance negotiations and in court. Once all the data is accumulated, it is released to our injury lawyers as they build a strong case for our client.
