Major Injuries Suffered During Benicia Rollover Accident

Major Injuries Sustained in Benicia Rollover Accident

On Monday, September 21, 2020, one person was severely hurt during a Benicia rollover accident. California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to the collision and reported that it involved only one passenger vehicle and happened early in the morning on a local highway. The injured individual was hospitalized, but updates on their condition have not yet been reported.

Crash Information

CHP reports state that the crash happened at about 6:45 a.m. on the westbound side of I-780 a short distance to the east of Southampton Road offramp. Specific details about what led up to the accident has not been reported. However, CHP indicated that a passenger vehicle drove off the road and crashed through a fence. After leaving the road, the car overturned and rolled down an embankment, eventually coming to a stop. Reports stated that two metal posts, as well as 40 feet of chain link fence, sustained major structural damage during the accident.

Response

Responders arriving at the scene of the accident found that one individual had severe trauma. Police called for an ambulance, and medical officials transported the injured party from the accident site to a local hospital so that they could receive immediate treatment.

According to CHP, this accident is still under an active investigation. However, officers have not released any information about likely collision factors. Frequently, crashes that only involve one car are more complicated than they seem and can involve more than one cause. Importantly, many car accident factors lie outside of driver control. Defective car parts and dangerous roads are both common examples of non-driver accident factors.

Rollover Collisions

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has released data showing that collisions involving overturned cars are much more dangerous than most crashes. Their statistics indicated that around 10 percent of fatal U.S. auto accidents are rollovers while only about two percent of crashes overall involve overturned cars.

One of the most important reasons that these crashes pose such a serious threat is weak vehicle roofs. If the roof of a car is not designed or constructed properly, it may not maintain its structure during a crash. This means the roof is liable to crush inward, intruding into the vehicle’s cabin. This can cause what are referred to as “roof crush injuries.”

In cases that involve roof crush injuries, it is frequently possible to hold the manufacturer of the vehicle responsible as an at-fault party to the crash. This is possible through filing a products liability claim against the manufacturer. However, you need to be able to prove that the roof of the vehicle was not properly constructed. For this reason, you should be sure to preserve your wrecked vehicle so that your attorney can determine whether or not the manufacturer may be liable.
