Watt Avenue Intersection Crash Causes Injuries

Major injuries were suffered by a motorcyclist in North Highlands on April 17 after colliding with a vehicle. The accident was reported around 1:25 in the afternoon at the Watt Avenue intersection with Van Owen Street. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) report, the motorcycle rider was lane splitting before the crash occurred with an unspecified vehicle.

Motorcycle Rider Transported to Hospital With Major Injuries

Medics with the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District arrived to assess the injured motorcycle rider, and it was determined that major injuries had occurred. The patient was transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention and additional evaluation. The CHP is investigating the accident to determine how it happened.

Lane Splitting in California

California is the only state that allows lane splitting, which occurs when a motorcyclist rides between lanes. The California Highway Patrol issued guidelines for practicing lane splitting, which include the following:

  • Do not practice lane splitting in areas where the speed is more than 30 mph.
  • Remain alert and watch for drivers who are attempting to change lanes or slowdowns up ahead.
  • Avoid lane splitting between large vehicles such as tractor-trailers. These larger vehicles may not spot a motorcyclist until it’s too late.
  • Do not drink or use drugs and lane split. Because this practice requires a steady hand and fast reflexes, being intoxicated can end up causing an accident with major injuries.

Filing a Claim Against a Negligent Party

When a motorcyclist is injured by a negligent driver, they may be able to place a claim for compensation. Motorcyclists are especially vulnerable in an accident due to their lack of protection. Because of it, they may suffer serious injuries and have to be off work for a long time.

A North Highlands personal injury lawyer can help you get the compensation you deserve. In this way, you can avoid financial stress and concentrate on healing. How Long Does it Take to Heal from an Accident Injury?

Healing time can depend on the extent of the injury and its location. For example, most broken bones heal in around six to eight weeks. However, complex fractures or crush injuries can take much longer. Other healing times for injuries, according to physical therapists, include:

  • Tendon damage: Damage to the tendons can take months and may need surgical repair.
  • Muscle damage: Damage to muscle tissue can take a long time to heal and is often detectable on an MRI up to a year later, depending on its severity.
  • Ligament damage: Ligaments are generally healed within six to 12 months.
  • Articular cartilage: Also heals within six to 12 months.
  • Cervical strain or sprain: Minor injuries can heal in several weeks. However, serious strain or sprain can last for a year or more.

More serious harm such as traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord damage, burns, and amputations can cause permanent disability. Because of the seriousness of car accident trauma, it is important for someone who has been involved in a collision to see a physician right away.
