Madison Avenue Intersection Site of Major Injury Bicycle Crash

A major injury bicycle crash occurred on November 16 in Fair Oaks after the rider was struck in a crosswalk. The crash happened around 2:35 p.m. at the intersection of Madison and Hazel Avenues. The rider was found lying down in the roadway and unable to move when officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) arrived.

Witness Saw Vehicle Involved and Major Injury Bicycle Crash

The rider had been in the crosswalk when struck by a white Ford F-150 pickup. Information was not provided on whether the driver remained at the scene or left. A witness to the accident allegedly said the vehicle struck the bicyclist.

Accident Being Investigated to Determine Cause

Metro Fire medics determined the rider had suffered significant injuries, and he was taken to a hospital. An investigation is underway by the CHP traffic collision detectives to find out what happened to cause the accident.

Factors Contributing to Major Bicycle Collisions

Injuries caused by negligent motorists to bicycle riders are expected. There are many ways in which these accidents can occur, including:

  • Negligent turns: When a motorist turns in front of a cyclist stepping off an intersection curb or crossing an intersection, it will likely cause a major injury bicycle crash.
  • Rear-end collisions: Riders can be thrown from their bicycle when a driver strikes them in the rear. As a result of this, the rider is susceptible to severe head injuries, spinal cord damage, broken bones, and other injuries.
  • Distracted driving: Driver distraction is a major contributing factor to traffic collisions. Distracted drivers ignore traffic when texting, talking on the phone, or doing anything else that could remove their attention, which would quickly lead to a bicycle accident.
  • Pulling into the bicycle lane: Motorists commonly pull into the bicycle lane to make a right-hand turn. However, if the driver doesn’t check for the presence of a rider first, they can strike them, causing a major injury in a bicycle crash.
  • Running a red light or stop sign: Ignoring a red light or stop sign and running through it endangers bicyclists walking their vehicles through the crosswalk.
  • Speeding: By driving too fast, a motorist does not have enough time to stop and avoid hitting a pedestrian or bicycle rider.

The following video offers tips when looking for a qualified personal injury attorney:

How an Injury Lawyer Helps You Recover Compensation

Personal injury lawyers offer a free consultation to review your accident case and tell you whether you can place a claim to recover compensation. If you hire them, they investigate your claim, collect the evidence needed to support it, and deal with the insurance company on your behalf. An injury lawyer will work hard to recover the wages you lost because of your collision, medical expenses, and compensation for your pain and suffering.
