Crash Fatally Injures Lodi Teen
A teenager from Lodi passed away late Friday after she lost control of the vehicle she was driving. The accident occurred on a Highway 99 off-ramp in the south area of Sacramento.
What Happened?
The accident took place just before 10:30 p.m. when the teen driver traveled into the West Stockton Boulevard off-ramp. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), she exited the ramp at a high rate of speed.
Teen’s Vehicle Slid and Collided With A Tree
She attempted to slow down by applying her brakes at a curve in the off-ramp. Unfortunately, the 1998 BMW slid out from its lane during the braking maneuver. The car then slid its way across to the Highway 99 on-ramp. In the process, the car’s driver-side door slammed into a tree along the on-ramp’s left shoulder.

Sadly, the 18-year-old driver, Renee Schimke passed away from her injuries as a result of colliding with the tree.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Ms. Schimke at her tragic and untimely passing.
Was Anyone Else Injured?
Yes. Three other 18-year-old teenagers were riding as passengers in the car that hit the tree. They are from San Joaquin County. Authorities said they suffered cuts. One of the victims told officers she was experiencing pain in her neck area.
What Was The Cause of This Accident?
No cause has been determined at this point. It usually takes an investigating agency one to two weeks to release a traffic collision report. The report will typically include their findings. Investigators will be looking to determine if speed, distracted driving, or being under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol played a factor in the crash.
