Local Woman, Child Seriously Hurt in Redding Auto Accident

Woman, Child Seriously Injured in Redding Auto Accident

A 28-year-old Redding resident and her 8-year-old son suffered severe trauma during a Redding auto accident on Saturday, May 2, 2020. The Redding Police Department (RPD) reported that the crash involved two vehicles and happened during the night. The injured child was reportedly released from the hospital on Monday, May 4, 2020. Updates on the woman’s condition have not been reported.

Crash Information

The accident happened at about 8:35 p.m. at Lancers Lane and Browning Street. The 28-year-old woman was driving an SUV on Lancers approaching Browning and reportedly stopped at the intersection. As the SUV continued into the intersection, it entered the path of an oncoming Dodge Ram driven by a 19-year-old man. The Dodge struck the SUV’s passenger side, causing significant damage.

Response

Response teams were dispatched to the accident site after RPD was notified about the incident. When they arrived, police found both the SUV driver and her son were seriously injured. Both were placed on ambulances and rushed to the Mercy Medical Center. Reports from the woman’s family indicated that she suffered a traumatic brain injury. Details about the child’s injuries were unavailable.

According to police, three passengers were in the Dodge at the time of the accident. Neither the driver nor the passengers suffered injuries from the crash. No other parties were involved in this accident.

Redding Auto Accident Investigation

RPD investigators are working to understand what factors could have caused this terrible crash. Police indicated that the driver of the Ram appeared to be traveling at a safe speed. There is more than one causal factor in many cases involving multiple vehicles. Furthermore, many common vehicle accident causes are non-driver factors like dangerous auto parts or defective roads.

Traumatic Brain Injuries

Traumatic brain injuries are a prevalent type of car accident trauma with many symptoms. Mild traumatic brain injuries often cause headaches, confusion, nausea, and sleep issues. At the same time, more severe cases can lead to chronic migraines, difficulty maintaining balance, language issues, severe mood swings, memory loss, paralysis, and more. Furthermore, brain tissue heals slowly, and recovering from a traumatic brain injury can take months or even years. During this time, people who have suffered a traumatic brain injury may have a hard time learning how to deal with their injury symptoms and often experience adverse mental health effects.

Getting Help

Fortunately, people injured in a crash can often obtain compensation. By filing a personal injury claim, you can obtain payments to cover your medical expenses and income you’ve lost, damage to your vehicle, and more personal losses related to your quality of life. The money available through injury claims can go a long way toward helping crash survivors move on with their lives.
