Livestock-Related Car Accident in Turlock Causes Major Trauma

On Monday, March 22, 2021, a livestock-related car accident in Turlock left one person with serious injuries. California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the incident involved two vehicles and left multiple animals with injuries. No other humans suffered trauma as a result of the accident and, according to CHP, the cause of this crash is still under investigation.

Crash Details

The accident happened on Highway 99 to the south of West Monte Vista Avenue. According to CHP, a 20-year-old Ceres resident was driving a 2014 Chevrolet SUV heading northbound just prior to the accident. For reasons that are still being investigated, the Chevy allegedly made an unsafe turning movement and crashed into the rear-end of a trailer hauling livestock that was being hauled by a 2011 Chevy Silverado pickup truck.

The pickup truck detached from the trailer and overturned multiple times before it finally came to a rest on its roof. The SUV reportedly continued off the highway and traveled into a ditch off the side of the road where it came to a stop.

As a result of the crash, around 20 animals, including both goats and sheep, escaped the trailer. According to reports, only a handful of the animals sustained minor injuries. Traffic was controlled on the fast and middle lanes of the highway while the animals could be herded into a corral.

Response

CHP was called about the accident shortly after it happened and, when police arrived, they found that the pickup truck driver was seriously hurt. The man was rushed to an area hospital via ambulance, and updates on his condition have not been reported. The SUV driver was reportedly uninjured.

Investigation

While police continue to look into the possible causes of this crash, there have been no reports confirming any causal factors. Frequently, auto accidents occur because of more than a single reason and they often involve factors that can’t be controlled by either of the involved motorists. Examples of non-driver accident factors include dangerously damaged pavement, defective auto parts, and more.

Rollover Collisions

If a vehicle overturns, it’s very likely to result in a serious injury and according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, these incidents are more dangerous than most other accidents. This is largely because of weak vehicle roofs that crush inward, intruding into the car’s cabin. In cases that involve a roof crush injury, the vehicle’s manufacturer is frequently considered a negligent party to the crash and can be held financially responsible for damages like medical bills, damaged property, income loss, and more.

In order to make sure that your attorney can hold the auto company liable, you should preserve the rolled vehicle to use as evidence for your case.
