June 2018 Nevada City Community Events

I’m Ed Smith, a Nevada City personal injury lawyer. Although Nevada City is the seat of Nevada County, it only has a population of around 3,145. The small town vibe and nearby Sierra Nevada mountain range can make Nevada City feel like a remote place. However, locals know that they do not need to trade peace, quiet, and beautiful scenery for fun things to do. In fact, Nevada City hosts many exciting community events each and every month. Those looking for something to do in the area may be interested in these events taking place in the coming weeks.

Bird Walk

When: June 9, 2018, from 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

Where: South Yuba River State Park

Nature lovers are invited to visit the nearby South Yuba River State Park for a birdwatching session guided by local experts. Both those with birdwatching experience and first-timers are welcome to come take part in sighting the many beautiful species that live in the area. Visitors can expect to see Bald Eagles, Wood Peckers, Phoebes, Kinglets, and a mix of birds that have recently migrated to the park.

This event is free of charge. Visitors are encouraged to bring binoculars if they have them. It is also a good idea to check weather forecasts and wear appropriate clothing.

Word Jam

When: Sunday, June 10, 2018, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Where: Dark Horse Coffee in Truckee, CA

The local coffeehouse, Dark Horse Coffee, will be hosting an event for writers to come and share their work. This open mic event welcomes writers of all ages, who will be given five minutes each to perform an original piece of poetry or prose. The coffeehouse will be open after the event for writers to talk with each other about their work while enjoying excellent coffee.

NCNG RR Museum Rail Bus Rides

When: Saturday, June 9, 2018, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Where: Nevada County Narrow Gauge Railroad Museum, Nevada City, CA

The Nevada City Narrow Gauge Railroad Museum is inviting everyone to come and take a ride on their fully restored rail buses. The historic buses travel along the Gold Run Creek and follow the path of the original route of the Nevada County Railroad. These events take place every Saturday, but visitors are encouraged to make reservations.

In addition to rail bus rides, the museum offers guided tours of their collection as well as their restoration workshop and rail yard. All of these experiences are free of charge thanks to volunteers who keep the museum running.
