Big Rig Accident on Interstate 5
A semi-truck that was transporting powdered limestone on Interstate 5 overturned on the morning of Thursday, October 13, 2016.
What Happened?
A semi-truck was traveling northbound on Interstate 5 in the vicinity of Elk Grove. The big rig overturned for unknown reasons that have yet to be identified by authorities. The crash was reported at approximately 7:19 am. The semi-truck sustained severe damage including the trailers described as jackknifed, where one trailer landed on top of the other, and heavy cab damage. At this time, there are no reports indicating how many individuals were injured and if there were any injuries.
Interstate 5 Traffic Mayhem
The California Department of Transportation reported that traffic was slowed down one mile from the crash back to Hood and Franklin Road. According to Caltrans, the accident impeded the flow of traffic by creating delays for other motorists on the roadway. For these reasons, it allowed investigators from the California Highway Patrol to conduct a thorough investigation of the probable causes leading up to the accident. The detour on the highway also allowed crews from the Cosumnes Fire Department to clean up the scene to ensure the safety of other drivers.
