Interstate 5 Big Rig Bus Crash

I’m Ed Smith, a Sacramento bus accident attorney. A Greyhound bus was transporting nearly 50 people to San Francisco during the early morning hours of Thursday, December 29, 2016. A big rig driver rear-ended the Greyhound bus causing a frightening crash along the northbound lanes of Interstate 5.

What Happened?

A Greyhound bus was traveling northbound to San Francisco along Interstate 5 in the vicinity of Kettleman City. A big rig that was transporting food rear-ended the Greyhound bus causing the bus to propel on an embankment and the big rig came to a rest on its side. Two passengers including a 6-year-old girl inside the bus and the driver of the truck were transported to the Coalinga Regional Hospital to be treated for injuries that were reported as minor.

The following video shows the severe extent of the big rig and bus accident along Interstate 5. Due to the impact of the crash, it caused the big rig to spill 10 to 20 gallons of diesel on the roadway. Clean-up crews arrived at the scene to clean debris from the crash to ensure the safety of other motorists traveling along this freeway.

What Caused the Crash?

The cause of the crash has not been released by authorities at this time. The motorist of the big rig did not seem to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. However, investigators suspect that the big rig  driver may have fallen asleep while operating the semi-truck.
