Injuries Reported on Eastbound I-80 South Natomas Traffic Crash

A South Natomas traffic crash on December 1 sent two people to the hospital following a two-vehicle accident. The collision occurred along eastbound I-80 to the northbound I-5 connector shortly after 3:00 p.m. Both vehicles, a Toyota Camry and a Dodge Durango, were found by California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers along the right-hand side of the interstate with their hazard lights on.

Paramedics with the Sacramento Fire Department arrived at the scene. They transported two injured patients to Sutter Roseville Medical Center. Information was not provided on the extent of injuries to the two patients. The investigation into the cause of the collision is underway by the CHP traffic crash unit.

A South Natomas Traffic Crash Poses a Number of Risks

On the highway, being involved in a collision with two vehicles can also be dangerous for other motorists. Highway speeds can result in dangerous collisions, debris on the roadway, and loss of control for a motorist who comes upon an accident. Moreover, motorists often scramble to exit the highway due to a standstill, which increases the chance of another collision between two vehicles.

Various Causes of Two-Vehicle Collisions on the Road
A number of factors can cause a South Natomas traffic crash on the highway. In most cases, the following factors play a role:

  • Speeding: It is no surprise that speeding is one of the main factors causing two-vehicle collisions. If an emergency arises, a speeder may lose control of their vehicle more easily.
  • Lane changes can cause accidents: A driver who cuts off another motorist or who fails to look for oncoming vehicles in the next lane can cause a two-vehicle crash.
  • Distractions: Distractions have increased in all types of accidents involving driving. It is common for passengers to discuss their travel plans in the vehicle, as well as text, change radio stations, monitor GPS, and change radio stations during a drive.
  • Drunk drivers: Each year, numerous types of accidents are caused by drunk and drugged driving. When a driver is drunk or on drugs, they have difficulty staying in their lane, accelerating and braking, and judging their distance from other vehicles.
  • Fatigue: Drivers who nod off behind the wheel or drive erratically due to fatigue can cause two-vehicle collisions. A motorist who is fatigued while driving has been compared to an inebriated person.
