Fleeing Driver Accident Occurs on Watt Avenue

A Sacramento fleeing driver accident involving two vehicles happened on July 10 near the light rail station. The accident occurred on northbound Watt Avenue at Longview Drive around 9:12 a.m. The only description of the hit-and-run vehicle was that it was black, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) accident report.

Authorities Actively Seeking Subject of Fleeing Driver Accident

The vehicle that remained at the scene was blocking traffic. Information was not given on whether the injured driver received treatment at the scene or was transported to a hospital. Investigators with the CHP traffic accident unit are examining the case to determine how it occurred and to find the hit-and-run driver.

Lawyers’ Techniques for Identifying Hit-and-Run Drivers

A hit-and-run often leaves injured parties feeling frustrated because the fleeing driver was more concerned about themselves than the people they might have injured. Injury lawyers may be able to locate the responsible party involved in the fleeing driver accident through careful investigations and use of their legal expertise. Once the driver is located, the injured person may be able to negotiate with the at-fault motorist’s insurer. The case may also be taken to court once the driver is located. In order to identify a hit-and-run driver, a lawyer can use the following methods:

  • Witnesses: Witnesses to the collision may be able to help determine the identity of an intersection hit-and-run driver. Witnesses and other individuals involved in an accident are typically interviewed by lawyers using interviewing techniques.
  • Camera footage: Identifying the missing vehicle and possibly capturing footage of the fleeing driver is done using surveillance footage from area cameras.
  • Police report: By reviewing the police report, the lawyer may pick up clues as to the identity of the fleeing driver.
  • Accident reconstruction: It is often possible to determine which driver was at fault by reconstructing the fleeing driver accident.
  • Social media: Posting about an accident on social media or bragging about getting away with a hit-and-run are two examples of people who post about their involvement in collisions on social media. In such cases, an accident attorney can investigate the activity and use the evidence against the drivers.
  • Insurance: Through insurance records and contact with local companies that cover drivers, lawyers may be able to locate the responsible party.

Insurance Coverage for Uninsured/Underinsured Accidents

The purpose of uninsured/underinsured motorist insurance is to protect you if you’re in an accident with an unidentified hit-and-run driver. Underinsured motorist coverage helps fill the gap between the other driver’s insurance and your medical bills if the other driver’s found but has insufficient coverage. If you do not have this coverage, you may be able to use the policy of a family member who does. There is no change in insurance rates.
