Injured Airplane Passengers Describe Terror

At least 22 passengers and two flight crew were injured in a terrifying Sacramento-bound JetBlue flight recently.

What Happened?

Flight 429, an Airbus A320 operated by JetBlue, was travelling from Boston with a destination of Sacramento. At some point the plane, which can seat 150 passengers, had to be diverted as a result of severe turbulence to Rapid City, South Dakota. The plane had experienced a series of thunderstorms near central South Dakota. After making its way through the first storm, the plane encountered another strong line of storms. The captain tried to fly around and over it but experienced a significant amount of turbulence. Due to the rough and bumpy turbulence the plane diverted its flight path and safely landed in Rapid City.

Injuries Sustained By Passengers and Crew

Several passengers were injured. Some of the injuries included trauma to the head, neck injuries and facial lacerations.  It is believed that the bad weather was responsible for generating the scary turbulence that the passengers and crew experienced.

Remaining Passengers Put On Another Plane

The remaining passengers had to be put on another airplane bound for Sacramento. They arrived at their final destination, Sacramento International Airport, at approximately 4:00 a.m. which was about eight hours later than their planned arrival time.

Description of Some Passengers Aboard JetBlue Flight 429

  • The flight was like a ride on the “Tower of Terror.”
  • The plane just “dropped without warning”.
  • The turbulence was like a “bad dream.
  • It was “very scary” with people flying out of their seats and hitting their head on the ceiling.

Apology Issued By JetBlue

As a gesture of goodwill, JetBlue apologized for the incident in a statement and gave customers a credit for their round-trip airline ticket.

Determining Fault in Airplane Accidents

Determining negligence is crucial for obtaining verdicts and/or settlements for injured victims. To accomplish this, a personal injury lawyer must have qualified experts, private investigators and flight reconstruction engineers ready to gather crucial evidence. Demonstrating pilot error or that air traffic control used poor judgment in take off, holding pattern or landing procedures may be necessary to proving fault.
