Honda Accord Battery Sensor Recall

I’m Ed Smith, a Stockton car accident lawyer. The Japanese automaker, Honda, has recently announced a recall on one of its popular vehicles on the market today. The recall affects over 1.1 million vehicles due to a fire hazard safety concern.

Battery Sensor Recall

Certain Honda Accord vehicles have been recalled by Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) due to a defect stemming from the battery management system of the car. A part, of the battery’s management system in certain vehicles, may allow water to enter through gaps of the case for the battery sensor. If moisture containing conductive substances (road salt for example) makes contact with a battery sensor, it may potentially cause an electrical short or even a fire.

Which Vehicles?

The following vehicles are affected by the battery sensor recall:

  • 2013 to 2016 Honda Accord

Defect Information Report

According to a Defect Information Report by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), there has been four reports of thermal events in the United States as of June 22, 2017. These reports along with more complaints from Honda Accord owners in other countries has prompted the recall of these cars to ensure the safety of vehicle occupants and other motorists on the road. Of all the documents submitted to Honda, there were no reports of injuries or deaths resulting from this automobile defect.

Recall Remedy

Owners will be notified by Honda when the remedy parts are made available to service their vehicle. When the parts are available, owners may take their vehicle to a Honda dealer to replace the sensor at no charge. Dealers will also conduct an interim remedy by applying adhesive to the case for the battery sensor. By doing so, this will prevent water intrusion in the future. Vehicle owners may contact the American Honda customer service line at (888) 234-2138 for more details. Contact a Stockton personal injury lawyer if you have suffered an injury.
