Police Arrest Suspect Following Hit-and-Run on Virginia Avenue in Oroville
An Oroville man was arrested on multiple charges following a hit-and-run on Virginia Avenue after investigation and stolen vehicle incident, Wednesday, July 29, 2026, according to the Oroville Police Department.
Hit-and-Run Investigation Leads to Stolen Vehicle Arrest
At approximately 3:07 p.m., Oroville police officers responded to a reported hit-and-run collision involving a black four-door sedan on El Noble Avenue.
While officers were investigating that collision, dispatch received another report at approximately 4:30 p.m. of a reckless driver operating a stolen vehicle while being pursued by the vehicle’s owner. According to police, the suspect vehicle struck a curb, lost one of its tires, and continued driving recklessly.
Officers later located the suspect vehicle on Virginia Avenue. After identifying the driver, officers confirmed the vehicle had been reported stolen.
The suspect was taken into custody and booked into the Butte County Jail on charges including vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, and hit-and-run.
Officer-Involved Shooting During Investigation
As officers completed the investigation, police reported that a large pit bull from a nearby residence unrelated to the incident escaped from a fenced yard and aggressively charged at officers.
One officer created distance and attempted to stop the dog by deploying a Taser. When the dog continued its attack and lunged toward another officer, that officer discharged a single round, killing the animal.
Authorities stated the dog was not connected to the criminal investigation.
No Injuries Reported
The Oroville Police Department reported that no officers, members of the public, or the arrested suspect were injured during the incident.
The criminal investigation into the hit-and-run and stolen vehicle case remains ongoing.
