Details on the Hit and Run Accident Reported in the Modesto Area

Authorities reported that a vehicle was involved in a crash with a motorcyclist. Responding officers located the motorcycle and its rider on the right-hand shoulder of SR-33. An American Medical Response (AMR) ambulance was dispatched to the scene for the injured biker.

A preliminary CHP traffic incident report revealed that the driver of the vehicle allegedly fled the scene. The suspect car reportedly left debris at the scene and is expected to have damage to the left side. Further information on the motorcycle accident was not immediately available.

What You Should Know About Motorcycle Accidents and Insurance Companies

There is no doubt that a motorcycle crash is more dangerous and catastrophic than a car accident. The reason being is that motorcycles lack the safety features of a passenger vehicle like airbags and seat belts as well as the protective exterior.

Following a crash, a motorcyclist may feel unsure of what steps to take next. This may be due to mounting medical expenses, inability to return to work temporarily or permanently because of accident-related injuries, and more. If another driver or entity was responsible for the incident, the biker may seek financial compensation for their injuries and losses incurred.

Working with an experienced personal injury lawyer is essential to ensuring the recovery of fair and reasonable financial compensation. When bringing a claim forward that another driver was responsible for the motorcycle accident, it is crucial that the incident is independently and thoroughly examined. Insurance companies will usually investigate the crash and draw a conclusion on what occurred. The same can be said for first-party insurance claims for uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage (UM and UIM). An injury attorney can also examine the facts and circumstances of the case to ensure that no details go missing.

Importance of Working with a Lawyer

Retaining a lawyer is also crucial to ensure you take the right steps to protect your case and best interests. Even if liability is clear, it is possible that the insurance company representing the at-fault party may use any defense tactic to downplay the value of your case or outright deny its validity.

For this reason, it is essential to leave all aspects of your case to an attorney to handle, including communications and negotiations with insurers. For information on how to find the best attorney in your area to represent you after a hit and run accident, watch the video below.

Types of Compensation in a Personal Injury Case

A personal injury lawsuit is comprised of two types of damages, economic and non-economic. Economic damages represent financial losses. This may include past and future costs of medical treatment that are deemed reasonable and necessary, lost income, loss of future earning potential, and property damage. To receive fair compensation for economic damages, it is essential to keep track of expenses related to the accident and to work with expert witnesses such as economists and medical professionals.

Non-economic damages are those intangible losses in which a direct dollar amount cannot be assigned. This is because everyone experiences pain and suffering in their own unique way after a motor vehicle accident. Non-economic damages in a personal injury case may also include emotional trauma, loss of consortium, disfigurement, and lost enjoyment of life. To prove non-economic damages, an injury attorney may work with expert witnesses to document the ways in which accident-related injuries have impacted the claimant’s ability to live their life in the same manner before the crash.
