Accident at 24th Street Intersection Injures Pedestrian

A hit-and-run pedestrian injury happened in the Meadowview area of Sacramento on January 9 that injured the individual on foot. The Sacramento Police Department reported that the accident happened at the intersection of 24th Street and Casa Linda Drive during the evening hours. The pedestrian who was struck was reported to have suffered moderate injuries.

Police Seek Fleeing Driver

Sacramento Fire Department emergency responders transported that patient to a nearby hospital. The accident is being investigated by the Sacramento Police Department to determine how it occurred and to seek information on the fleeing driver

Hit-and-Run Accident Injury Claims

Pedestrians who have been injured by a hit-and-run driver are naturally concerned about paying their medical bills, regaining their lost wages, and how they may receive compensation for their pain and suffering. Although my law office, through conducting our own investigation, has a good record of success in locating a fleeing driver, not all of them are caught. However, if the injured pedestrian carries an uninsured/underinsured auto policy, that insurance will cover their financial losses.

An uninsured/underinsured policy is offered to California drivers as an add-on when they purchase auto insurance. Many people opt for it because of the high number of drivers who lack auto insurance. The policy covers those who are injured while in a motor vehicle but also includes pedestrians, bicyclists and scooter riders. If the pedestrian injured by the hit-and-run driver does not carry this add-on insurance policy and another member of the family carries it, they may place a claim using theirs. The premium paid to use this add-on policy does not increase when it is used.

How Our Office Investigates a Hit-and-Run

When conducting an investigation into a hit-and-run accident, our investigative team first goes to the scene to gather evidence to support our client’s compensation claim. There, they perform accident reconstruction, which includes taking photos and looking for signs that can help identify the vehicle, such as tire marks, pieces broken off the car/truck, and others. Forensic reconstruction of this type is widely used both by insurance companies and in court.

The witnesses are carefully interviewed to see if any of them saw and could identify the vehicle and driver. In some cases, a witness has taken a video by using their cell phone. Even recalling several of the numbers on the license plate of the vehicle is a big help. The police report is examined for errors that need to be corrected. In addition, the investigators look for any road, traffic light, or nearby business cameras in the area that could have captured the accident on tape. This can readily be used to identify the vehicle that caused the accident in many cases.

When the evidence has been gathered, our injury attorneys use it to work toward building a robust case to support our client’s compensation claim.
