Larchmont Drive Hit and Run Accident Causes Injuries

A hit and run with injuries occurred in North Highlands on March 19 between two vehicles. The accident was reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). It happened along eastbound Larchmont Drive and Don Julio Boulevard around 6:41 in the evening between a Ford Explorer and Kia Optima. A passenger in the Kia was seen by emergency responders with the Sacramento Fire Department, who transported her to a nearby hospital for further treatment and evaluation. The Kia sustained major front-end damage in the collision. The CHP is conducting an investigation into the accident to determine how it happened and locate the hit and run driver.

Locating a Hit and Run Driver

Hit and run accidents are happening at an increased frequency in the Sacramento area. For an injured party, this adds insult to injury. Not only are they injured, but they feel as if they are bearing the brunt of the accident financially too. Police work hard to apprehend the driver, however, their efforts may fail. Our law firm’s investigators work alongside the police to find the fleeing driver. Often, they canvass the neighborhood around the accident site to see if anyone has seen or knows the hit and run driver. Often, the accident happens close to where the perpetrator lives, so this effort can be fruitful.

What Can an Injured Party Do If the Hit and Run Driver Is Not Caught

Medical expenses are often high in a hit and run crash and are coupled with the loss of wages. When this happens, the family of the injured person suffers along with their loved one. One way to pay for the costs is to use your own uninsured insurance. California insurance companies are mandated to offer this policy as an add-on to every driver. Some drivers refuse to take it, however, in a car crash, they are able to use the uninsured policy of a family member who lives with them. There is no change in premiums when this is used.

Why Do Hit and Run Accidents Happen

Hit and run drivers may be charged with a criminal offense when they are apprehended, depending on the severity of the injuries. They may lose their driving privileges, pay a high fine, and even do jail time. So, the question becomes, why does it happen? Here are some of the most common reasons:

  • The driver has a warrant out for his or her arrest and does not want to be caught.
  • The driver is intoxicated and does not want to be tested for drunk driving.
  • The driver has drugs or drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.
  • The driver does not have an active license or registration.
  • The driver panics and leaves.

How a Lawyer Can Help

At our law firm, we send our investigators to the accident site to look for evidence of negligence. They look for links to the identity of the vehicle and the driver. The investigators will look for surveillance cameras in the area that caught the accident on tape and talk to witnesses. They will also assist in apprehending the perpetrator. Once all incriminating evidence is gathered, our investigators will release it to the legal team to build a strong case in our client’s favor.
