Police Have Lead on Hit-and-Run Driver

Following a recent hit-and-run fatality accident in Rancho Cordova, authorities are seeking information to identify the owner of the vehicle suspected of causing the crash. The accident was reported shortly after 10:00 p.m. at Trinity River Drive’s intersection with Sunrise Boulevard, which caused the death of one man. Deputies with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene to discover the driver had fled. The man was pronounced dead at the accident site by medics.

Suspect Vehicle Spotted at Local Gas Station

No description of the vehicle was initially released by authorities. In an update, the car and driver believed to have been involved in the collision were photographed at a gas station. A security camera at the gas station shows the wanted suspect in a Nissan Pathfinder or model that is similar, and that was produced between 1995 and 2005. The service station in question is located at the Folsom intersection with Routier Road.

Description of Driver Involved in Hit-and-Run Fatality Accident

The fleeing driver was described as a medium-build man, between 5 feet, 11 inches, and 6 feet,1 inch tall, and weighing between 180 and 230 pounds. The man appeared to have a goatee and mustache and was dressed in dark pants, a sweatshirt, and maybe a collared shirt.

Description of Fatal Hit-and-Run Vehicle

Authorities stated that the vehicle appeared to be poorly maintained with damage on the front as well as the passenger side, a panel on the corner and a headlight. The vehicle’s brake light on the passenger side was defective. In addition, the tire at the back of the passenger side seemed to be a spare because the rim didn’t match the others. Following the fatal hit-and-run, the vehicle proceeded west along Coloma Road to Folsom Boulevard. It then went west on Folsom to Bradshaw, where it continued in the westbound lanes along Highway 50.

Filing for a Wrongful Death

When a loved one dies because of a negligent driver, the immediate family can file a claim for wrongful death with the help of an injury lawyer. Those who can file include the surviving spouse and children in the family and others who received at least half their support from the deceased. Areas in which they can recover damages include:

  • The cost of the funeral and burial expenses can be recovered.
  • If the decedent contributed to the family’s income, their wages, bonuses, tips, insurance coverage, and other perks of the job are recoverable.
  • Children in the household may place a claim for the loss of nurturing, guidance, and other help the decedent provided.
  • The spouse may place a claim to recover damages for the loss of consortium and affection provided by the decedent.
  • Damages can be recovered for the household services the decedent provided. This includes areas such as caring for the children, working in the yard, taking care of the taxes, and others.

Uninsured/Underinsured Policy Protection

If the at-fault party was uninsured, the family of the decedent can use their uninsured/underinsured insurance policy to cover some of the financial losses. If the individual who died did not carry this policy, but another member of the family has it, that can be used instead. It will not affect their insurance rates in the future.
